Expanded PTFE joint sealant (also called ePTFE joint sealant tape or self-adhesive PTFE tape) is made from 100% pure white virgin PTFE resin that has been expanded into a soft, fibrous, micro-porous structure and combined with a continuous self-adhesive strip for easy application. Unlike cut gaskets that must be measured, cut and fitted precisely, joint sealant is simply pressed onto the flange face around the bolt circle, overlapped at the ends, and bolted up — a method that eliminates waste, reduces inventory and speeds up installation dramatically.

Choose tape when the flange is large, irregular or has a complex shape where cutting a gasket is impractical; when the joint is opened frequently and inventory cost matters; or when the flange surface is pitted or damaged. See Expanded PTFE Gasket for standard-cut option.
As a rule: 3 mm for DN15-50, 5 mm for DN50-100, 10 mm for DN100-200, 15 mm for DN200-500, 20 mm for DN500-1000, 30 mm for DN1000+. Send us your flange size for a specific recommendation.
Standard practice is 25-50 mm overlap at the start point. For larger flanges or higher-pressure service, use 50 mm or more. Slightly compress the overlap by hand so it seats flush with the rest of the tape.
No. PTFE is chemically inert — the tape does not hydrolyse, harden, crack or age like rubber compounds. It separates cleanly from the flange after use and leaves no residue.
