What is ePTFE Spiral Wound Gasket Filler Material?

Expanded PTFE spiral wound gasket filler material is a soft, thin, flexible tape made from 100% white pure virgin PTFE resin that has been expanded into a fibrous micro-porous structure. It is used as the "soft inner layer" of a spiral wound gasket — the metal winding provides the mechanical strength and resilience, while the ePTFE filler material sits between the metal layers and provides the actual sealing barrier.

Unlike graphite or ceramic fillers that can harden, oxidize or crack over time, ePTFE filler will not age, shrink, dry out or harden in service, and it is chemically inert to almost every industrial medium. Its conformability lets it seal rough or damaged flange surfaces while retaining the resilience needed for thermal cycling. The result is a spiral wound gasket with the strength of metal windings plus a soft, chemically inert, temperature-stable seal. Three Components Working Together

1

Metal Winding (V or W shape)

Stainless steel or other alloy strip wound in a V or W profile — provides the mechanical strength and spring-back of the gasket.

2

ePTFE Filler (this product)

The expanded PTFE tape layer alternates between the metal windings — this is what actually seals the media. Chemically inert, temperature stable, does not age.

3

Centre Ring (inner & outer)

Optional carbon steel or stainless steel ring that controls compression and keeps the gasket centered on the flange.

Frequently Asked Questions

01

What is spiral wound gasket filler material used for?

It is the soft inner layer of a spiral wound gasket, wound between the V or W shaped metal windings. The metal provides mechanical strength and spring-back; the ePTFE filler provides the actual sealing barrier against the media. See the product page for full details.

02

What is the difference between ePTFE, graphite and ceramic filler?

ePTFE offers universal pH 0-14 chemical resistance and FDA compliance but is limited to +260°C. Graphite tolerates higher temperatures (up to +450°C in inert atmospheres) but is not suitable for oxidizing media or food service. Ceramic tolerates the highest temperature (+1000°C) but is brittle and cracks easily.

03

What tape dimensions do you supply?

Standard tape widths are 3 mm to 15 mm, thicknesses 0.5 mm to 3 mm, in continuous rolls. Custom widths and thicknesses are available on request with no extra tooling charge for standard materials. Send your requirement for a fast quotation.

04

Is the filler FDA compliant for food and pharmaceutical service?

Yes. Our expanded PTFE spiral wound gasket filler material is manufactured from 100% virgin PTFE and complies with FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 for food contact. It is also RoHS and REACH compliant. See our Our Certificate page.

05

Do you provide Mill Test Certificate and third-party inspection?

Yes. Every shipment includes Mill Test Certificate and dimensional inspection record. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TUV) is available on request. Contact us via Contact Us to discuss documentation requirements.

06

What is your MOQ, lead time and payment terms?

MOQ is 10 kg for standard sizes. Lead time is 7-15 days after order confirmation. Payment terms are T/T or L/C. Free samples are available — you only cover the courier cost. Send your inquiry for a fast quotation.

  • Kaxite expanded PTFE spiral wound gasket filler material is a thin, continuous PTFE tape wound together with the metal strip to form the soft sealing element of a spiral wound gasket. It is produced from 100% virgin PTFE in dust-free workshops and expanded into a micro-porous network, which retains PTFE's chemical inertness while reducing cold flow and creep relaxation. Standard tape thickness is 0.5–0.9 mm, width 3.0–9.0 mm, and roll length 5–100 m. Working temperature is −268 °C to +280 °C, pressure rating is 200 kgf/cm² for liquid and 140 kgf/cm² for gas, and chemical resistance covers pH 0–14.
